Opening in PS as a Smart Object, from LR is a powerful bonus to a solid workflow.
Tried it all out, yesterday, with some excellent results in the end. Even figured out how to Add a New Layer, in PS, that was NOT a Smart Object so I could do some Content-Aware Editing and some other stuff. Can’t believe it but was able to arrange the layers to save the edits & adjustments AND drum roll, please! … The finished file is in LR, now, as a copy – right next to the original file! Brilliant!! And I still have a fully operational PS PSD fully-layered file saved outside of LR on a separate folder/drive. Naturally, do not need this for all files but it is nice to know. (There were a couple of bumps and crashes along the way but we don’t need to talk about that, now – ha-ha!)
Thank-you so much, Colin!

Thanks Dan, these are good suggestions.

Preferences>External Editing, change it t a PSD. These days, Photoshop Tif and Psd have pretty much the same functionality since Adobe owns the Tif format

You made it clear. Would love to see something on Colorize Neural filter. Interface has me baffled. Typical problem: sensei missed a hand or an ear. I’d like to pick up the color from the face and have sensei apply it to an ear–no color picker. (I know this can be done after leaving Colorize in Photoshop.) Thanks!

two good new ideas for me: using a smart object for changes in the ACR-Filter and making an extra preset if I want to keep the layers in Ps.

Thank you. Also for writing down all that stuff. That later helps a lot when I will have forgotten important parts.

Best regards
Joewu

This file has the LR adjustments baked in, but all the layers created in PS are retained. So the only advantage I see to using Edit as a Smart Object is to retain the original LR adjustments and be able to tweak them later. Can I choose when editing as a Smart Object to have the copy that is saved be a PSD file rather than TIF?

And for showing how to use the custom preset – that was new to me.
