One new step to consider taking after choosing the desired generated image and restore some to all of the underlying image (good for faces): Activate the layer mask that is on the new generated layer and use a black brush (at up to 100% Opacity) to paint away some or all of the generated change to the original image. I followed the tutorial: Quick mask, set density, fill, and then exit quick mask. All good so far. Now, I didn’t have the generative fill box floating like you did so I went to Edit=>Generative Fill, entered watercolor, and clicked generate. A new layer was created and it didn’t use my selection rather it created a new layer with what appear to be random paints! Where did I go wrong?

Thanks so much for the written accompaniment to the YouTube tutorial. Now the steps are clearer to me (wrt that section re: what density/Brightness % to enter for the style effects to work using the underlying image). I was totally boggled before. But thanks to the clarifying reply in the YT vid Comments and this process description, now I’m excited to try the capability out (even if I know my results won’t be up to the caliber of yours…).
